The Battle of Chunker Hill

Ah, at long last: the day of the Boston Trip has arrived!!

Boston.

Ground zero of the American Revolution.

Okay, I realize The Patriot didn't take place anywhere near Massachusetts. Calm down.

The place where chowder comes standard on any menu.

The land of Harvard.

My safety law school.

The only US city with a weirder native accent than New Orleans.

Alright, maybe not weirdER than New Orleans, but still wicked weird.

The only place in the world where a couple people ticked off about a 2 cent tax on sugar, stamps, and tea could lead to a complete shift in the global power structure and the beginning-of-the-end of the British being in control of everything.

The JK Rowling of his time.

The birthplace of the Tea Party movement.

Seriously guys, it was JUST a little tariff.  Gotta pay to keep the Indians out of Boston somehow.

Boston.

And for the next two and a half days, I will call Boston my home away from home.   I am very excited.  But, as with any special occasion, I am a little nervous about the impact of this trip on my diet/lifestyle change.

On the one hand, a trip is arguably a legitimate reason to deviate from the rigors of my normal diet/exercise regime.  On the other hand, you could make the argument that anything is worthy of a deviation from the normal regime.....do that enough and you're back to where you started (in my case, 161.8 pounds and covered in fattle wounds).

So what's a girl to do?

I've gotta make a battle plan.   I am calling this one The Battle of Chunker Hill.

I am a big fan of pre-planning departures from the diet.   I find that if I go into a situation with the mindset "I know that this is going to be a calorie-fest.  That's okay.  Just exercise more, and try to cut back in other places" that I am much, much more likely to enjoy myself and then get right back with the program.   In contrast, if I go into a situation planning to "be good" and then end up succumbing to temptation, I am much more like to just say, "Fuck it" and end up making bad choice after bad choice after bad choice.

With that in mind, the battle plan:

1)  I will exercise each day of this trip. No ifs, ands, or buts.   I am sure the hotel has a gym. I will make use of it.  I will also surely do some semblance of an Urban Hike around Boston....but The H will want to stop to read every historical looking thing he sees so I have to get in some legit cardio beforehand.  I will also dance my ass off at the wedding.

2) The wedding is a guilt-free zone.  I can eat what I want and that will simply be that.  A) I have no control over the menu. B) It is a legit special occasion and lifestyle changes have to accommodate special occasions.

3) For the rest of the trip's meals I will be calorie-conscious....aka, no chowder.

That's the master plan.

Wish me luck!
